Panda bites drunk, drunk bites back

Zhang, 35, got angry and kicked the panda, who then bit his other leg. A tussle ensued.

"I bit the fellow in the back," Zhang was quoted as saying in the newspaper. "Its skin was quite thick."

Other tourists yelled for a zookeeper, who soon got the panda under control by spraying it with water, reports said. Zhang was hospitalised.

Newspaper photographs showed Zhang lying on a hospital bed with blood-soaked bandages and several seams of stitches running down his leg.

Ye Mingxia, a spokeswoman for the Beijing Zoo, said Gu Gu was "healthy and uninjured".

source: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20456935-13762,00.html

Metal Council Convenes To Discuss 'Metal Hand Sign' Abuse

VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER, ICELAND — In an emergency session Tuesday, members of the Supreme Metal Council strongly condemned the increasing use of the metal hand sign in lay society, claiming that its meaning has become perverted by overuse.

"The metal sign, or 'sign of the goat,' has all but lost its impact as a token of respectful recognition for something truly 'rocking' or 'metal,'" SMC president Terence "Geezer" Butler said. According to Butler, members are upset that their sacred gesture is being used to acknowledge and celebrate "favorable but clearly non-metal events."

"We have all heard the reports of people using it to greet their in-laws, or after starting their lawn mowers with a single pull," Butler said. "But recently it was brought to our attention that someone used the gesture in a Texas convenience store after snagging the last box of carrot cakes. This simply won't do."

Formed in 1972 and comprising 12 of the most revered leaders of the metal community, the council meets annually in its majestic hall atop Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier, to discuss metal affairs. The SMC convened for a special session after Nikki Sixx, Overlord Of Glam Metal Affairs, was sent hard photographic evidence of metal-sign abuse across the nation. Sixx's fellow high priests said they were "shocked," calling it "one of the most serious affronts to metal's integrity since the rise of rap-metal in the late 1990s."

"I remember a time not long ago when the Devil Horns were reserved for only the most righteous of person, deed, or riff," Grand Elder Lemmy Kilmister said. "To see someone throwing the horns to his mate at the launderette because the clothes dryer came to a full stop just as he finished reading his copy of Circus... It breaks my heart."

Nodding in silent agreement were council members Adalwolfa, a curvaceous Frank Frazetta-drawn Teutonic she-warrior magically brought to life by the council, and the spirit of slain Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.

Compounding the problem, Sixx said, is the fact that many people who use the sign are not recognized members of the Metal Roster, the list of true metal acolytes engraved in medieval calligraphy on gleaming pages of steel.

"This man here, who invokes the sign merely to indicate his joy that his microwave popcorn is done: He is not metal," Sixx said. "We have it on good authority that he prefers the music of Tim McGraw and that the magic word of 'Zoso' has never passed his lips."

The council discussed several harsh punishments to deter further metal-sign abuse. Paulo Pinto, bassist for the Brazilian thrash-metal band Sepultura and Overlord Of International Metal Affairs, suggested that the hand of a suspected signer should be immediately cut off. A contingency of death rockers from Gothenburg, Sweden recommended that any sign abuser, or anyone who is not sufficiently metal, should be forced to eat his severed hand while having his eyeballs burned with a superheated metal crucifix, and then be slowly skinned alive.

More charitable members, such as former Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, suggested that "a helpful list of guidelines could educate others, allowing them to distinguish between metal and non-metal occurrences."

"A lot of people who incorrectly make the sign have traces of metal in their hearts and minds, they just need the proper direction," Mustaine said. "Remember that many are outcasts and losers. To punish them further is to destroy the future of metal."

Until the council decides what course of action to adopt, Butler said he believes that a simple rule of thumb will help reduce the incidence of metal-sign abuse.

"If your head is neither banging nor thrashing, you should not be throwing the sign," Butler said. "It's that simple."

Yet, in a later interview in his private, skull-bedecked chambers, Butler expressed the concern that the problem has grown too widespread for even the mighty SMC to solve. He said he worries that metal standards have been on the decline for so long that few have any clear idea as to what is metal and what is not. The SMC has experienced deep ideological rifts in the past that have affected its ability to make strong decisions, most notably during the lengthy trial and eventual sentencing of Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who was indicted in 2004 on charges of cutting his hair, pussing out on Napster, and contributing to the original motion-picture soundtrack of Mission: Impossible 2.

"To this day, there are many on the council who deeply resent the presence of [Poison guitarist] C.C. DeVille,'" Butler said. "In fact, so do I. Despite our differences, the council still remains the sole arbitrator of all things metal. We must get through to those who wantonly abuse the sign of the goat. They must be informed that watering down the sign's meaning will result in serious consequences."

Should the abuse continue, Butler said the council "will defer the matter to Satan."

source: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/42365

While I am feeling demoralised, exhausted, on the verge of breaking, moody, anxious, unfit, and so on...I'm ridiculously excited. Maybe it's the caffeine.

I am excited for reasons such as the following:

a) On Saturday Mampi Swift is going to bring some much-needed cheese.
b) My birthday is in a couple of weeks.
c) I have emerged from self-induced hibernation.
d) Quiet Storm last weekend was a breath of fresh air for Perth.
e) The recording of 2 new FTW tracks is underway, adding to the 4 we've recorded already.
f) Feeling rejuvenated after a long break from EHRL stuff. We are going to ensure our new stuff eclipses all our previous material.
g) I am leaving in a couple of weeks. I love home, but I can't wait to get away.
h) When away, I will be visiting Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Bordeaux, Sarlat and London.
i) I am travelling with Tina.
j) Along the way, I will be meeting up with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend, and my sister.

That's more than enough reason to be excited.

ball-biting madness!

Woman bit my penis, says cop
By Glenis Green
The Courier Mail
May 23, 2006

AFTER allegedly being punched, kicked, bitten and headbutted repeatedly by a writhing, naked woman he was trying to detain, Constable Anthony Jennings was distracted for just a moment as the door opened on the prison van.

But that was all it took. As the Constable relaxed his grip on his accused attacker, she lunged and allegedly bit him on his penis.
"I felt an excruciating pain on the end of my penis and as I looked down she had her head over the top of my groin and she was biting," Constable Jennings told the Maroochydore District Court on the Sunshine Coast yesterday.

He was giving evidence on the first day of trial proceedings against Maria Klaus, 38, of Maroochydore, who is facing two counts of serious assault of a police officer while he was executing his duties. Ms Klaus has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The tale of the violent end to Constable Jennings's call out to a domestic disturbance in a block of units about 5.30pm on June 12 last year was related to the court by Crown Prosecutor John Allen in his opening address to the jury.

The court was told that Constable Jennings and his partner, Senior-Constable Leonie Scott, were invited to enter the Beach Parade unit by a man, Kevin Hughes, believed to be Ms Klaus's partner. There they met a wet, aggressive Ms Klaus – wearing only a towel – as she apparently emerged from the shower.

Constable Jennings, 43, said Ms Klaus became agitated when asked to put on some clothes while she talked to police and had shoved Mr Hughes when he suggested she calm down.
Constable Jennings said as he stepped between Ms Klaus and Mr Hughes, Ms Klaus grabbed the arm of a three-year-old girl who had appeared and swung her to the floor behind her.

He told the court that when the little girl got up and Ms Klaus repeated the action he stepped forward to restrain her.

"Klaus started to punch and kick and that sort of stuff and the towel just got dragged off . . . she was wet and she was naked and I couldn't get a grip anywhere," he said.

Constable Jennings said at one point Ms Klaus had him clutched tightly by his collar and tie. She was headbutting him, trying to bite his face and head and "gnashing her teeth and at some point she bit my left forearm".

"She was yelling at me that she was going to get my balls."

Constable Jennings told the court he had sustained a cut lip, a chipped tooth, bruised shoulder and bitten forearm. The court heard that eventually the two officers handcuffed Ms Klaus, who continued to refuse to put clothes on.

Constable Jennings said as he looked up to see where to guide Ms Klaus into the police van, she bit him on the penis.

"I was in a lot of pain and shock and I screamed and threw my weight on her and dropped her to the ground," he said.

Constable Jennings said he later checked inside his trousers "and everything seemed okay".

In cross-examination, barrister Steve Courtney, for Ms Klaus, questioned Constable Jennings about police duty under the requirements of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act. The trial continues today.

almost time for a new calendar...

I don't remember the last time I properly wrote in this thing. Too long ago. It seems I can't/won't find the time.

There's so much to say, none of which I can actually be bothered saying.

I'm doing okay. The festive season is here, which to me usually means a heap of positives balancing out a heap of negatives, and equaling nothing too significant...the end of another year I guess.

I never thought I would enjoy a break from band stuff this much. No rehearsals, no shows. Fantastic. As much as I love it, I have been feeling a little burnt out from everything. Although it has been a very productive and satisfying year for me and my co-conspirators musically, it has also been very grueling. I'm tired...really fucking tired.

Many good times have come and gone since I last updated this journal. I've been through some pretty heavy self-induced shit, I've wallowed in my own filthy stench for periods here and there, I've managed to save a shitload of money. I've continued to fuel my insatiable appetite for denim and shoes. I'm waiting on some dope new Pony shoes Tina is getting me for Christmas.

So I've been trying to compile a list of my favourite records for the year. It is proving impossible. I may or may not attempt to condense this list later on, but for now, here are my favourite 86 records of the year. Yes, eighty-six. Listen to them, they are good. I included my own band for good (read: self-indulgent) measure.

music to suit your mood

When I am feeling paranoid, cold, edgy and distant, I tend to listen to music that reflects that mood. Content to wallow? Maybe, sometimes. Or, on the other hand, maybe it is because I am very aware of my likely responses to certain stimuli - for if a 'happy' song were to find its way out of these headphones and into my ears, they would probably be punched off my head in frustration.

I slept today. It was the first time I can remember in over 5 years (and since I was a complete fucking mess) that I have slept, simply so I didn't have to be awake. Not a good sign, methinks.

A million thoughts are running around my head, making shrieking metallic noises as they bounce from one side to another. I would love to get them all out and make a note of them, but I really can't be bothered. Must sleep.

Night.

I don't remember the last time I did a proper update of this thing. So here goes...

I am ok. Things are ok. Things are going to be ok. So I tell myself. But behind the facade, I am fucking miserable at the moment. I do not, can not understand how or why I treat myself the way I do. I despise violence, but if someone else were to treat me the way I treat myself, I would probably go for the old 'fork in the eye'.

I just can't seem to get going these days. In regards to the so-designated 'important' things, at least. I feel like I've wasted a year. And in many respects, I probably have. I feel lousy. My motivation for many things is all but gone, I treat myself and others as if they do not matter - as if they are an afterthought, my diet is shit, I am unfit, I look like death, I feel even worse...I could go on forever but I won't. It's almost like I don't want to get out of this mess though. I don't seem to be doing anything about it, at least. It's a feeling I know all too well - I can't tell whether I feel nothing at all, or if just seems this way because my emotions are so intense that they overwhelm me. As corny as it may be to quote Cobain, "I miss the comfort in being sad".

I am grateful for the things that keep me going. Without the relationships in my life and music, I don't know how I would continue.

It's a familiar feeling - the long summer break is almost here, and I don't feel like I have earned one iota of a rest.

I miss my cat. Coco, I hope you're basking in the sun somewhere warm in feline heaven.

In less gloomy, and band-related shit, things are going pretty well. EHRL's debut album 'The Good Fight For Harmony' is complete (finally!), and will go to press as soon as the artwork is completed. 'Taste Of Chaos' was crazy. I can't think of another word for it. That crowd was fucking huge, and I loved every minute of it. Playing that show seems to have done very good things for us fan-wise. FTW have almost completed recording 4 songs for the forthcoming follow-up to 'Avarice'. It sounds heavier than I could have imagined, and the new material we are readying for the studio is crushing. We are playing with Nile soon. Holy shit. I still can't get over it.

What oh what oh what am I going to do...? Both options at the moment are fucked. How I will break this news I do not know. I disappoint, oh how I disappoint.

I think I might go for a punishing run this evening. Might lift my spirits a little.

I think I just wet myself laughing at this...

Suburbs invaded by feral boars
From: The Sunday Mail (Qld) By Danielle Jesser and Damien Stannard
August 28, 2005

A GIANT feral boar, weighed in at 270 kg and was one of the largest caught in Queensland. This shows how big the State's feral pig problem has become.

Hunters say the beasts are growing to monstrous size as farmers fight a losing battle against the pests. The pigs are becoming more brazen as they take to the suburbs of north Queensland in search of food, destroying gardens and lawns in Cairns and Airlie Beach.

Hunter Wayne Haldane has caught what is thought to be one of the biggest ferals in Queensland near his home in Kennedy, north of Cardwell.

The boar weighed 270kg and the only scales that could hold it were electronic ones used to weigh cattle.

Most feral pigs, which hide in sugar cane, weigh 60kg-150kg.

"I've caught plenty of pigs but never anything the size of this one," Mr Haldane said. "He must have been on good tucker."

While no official records of pig weights are kept, State Department of Natural Resources spokesman Steve Matheson said it was the biggest pig the department had heard about.

Mr Matheson said the pig would have been living on bananas rather than just sugar cane.

Mr Haldane said he thought feral pig numbers were rising, especially in areas that bordered national parks.

"Pigs are more cunning than most people think. These big old boars don't get that big by being stupid."

Mr Haldane and friends Jamie Bush and Jason Carter tracked the pig for more than three hours. They took three dogs and covered about 4km.

"They do a ridiculous amount of damage to the sugar cane and bananas. Any dead pig is a good pig."

Researchers hope a vegetable sausage that smells like fish might help deliver poison baits to the estimated 23 million feral pigs nationally.

This month, Cairns man Rod McKechnie had to defend himself with a shovel when a 60kg feral pig charged him in suburban Redlynch when he tried to shoo it from a playground.

A 40kg feral pig that moved into the Townsville suburb of Annandale in June has gone to ground.

The reclusive beast, known as Stinky to residents, has eluded all Townsville City Council's attempts to trap it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to meet Mr Haldane. And I want him to have a sparring match with Stinky, after Stinky has demolished a large plate of bananas and fish-scented vegetable sausages. Then we'll see who is stupid.

For other amusing animal-related shenanigans, see the following:

'Dog Taught To Kick-Box' and 'Depressed Chimp Lights Up'.

Also, Fool The World got the Nile support. Holy shit. Seriously. Fuck. Besides that, life is fucking shit at the moment, all self-induced of course.

Come tomorrow night. It will be amazing. Great local bands, although I'm probably slightly biased. Shai Hulud will be as evocative as they've ever been, and I will sift through memories of when I was a sad, bitter, 15 year old.

I need some to keep my eyes from closing. Tonight will be the first night I have spent at home in about 10 days or so. I'm absolutely exhausted, and I don't think I can keep this up. I'm run down, feeling flat, and I'm getting sick again. Something is going to have to give.

Between full-time university, working two days a week, playing in two bands, trying to maintain healthy relationships with my family, girlfriend and friends, I have no time left for myself. I really enjoy my time alone. At the moment, though, that scarce time is more of a luxury that it should be.

I shall enjoy myself, alone, tonight.

Also...

a) paranoid
b) self-absorbed

Choose one.

Run dem, run dem....big tings gwarn get fix'd.

Last night...simply awful. I have not felt that atrocious in a very long time. I couldn't sleep, and all evening I felt like I was going to fall apart, or spontaneously combust, or something. I thought I'd forgotten what it was like to feel that depressed, that hopeless. Thanks for reminding me, Mr. Mood.

Interpol was just as I expected. Good, not great, not bad, but good. I didn't expect them to be kings of wild stage presence and crowd interaction, but I also don't like spending that sort of money to watch a band on stage and listen to a perfect reconstruction of the CD. Hence the second half of their set was better (bum notes, seriously noticeable fuckups, a little more improv). Note to Mr. Sound Engineer - less kick drum pleasesir, the right side of my head still fucking hurts.

FTW are playing at the Lookout tonight. It's Tasso's birthday - you should come down and buy him many drinks so he can abuse you, call you 'cunt' and 'useless' and 'fucken' and such.

Tonight should be good - Major Break. I'm looking forward to seeing JDS...Krafty Kuts would be good as always but I'd be seeing him for the umpteenth time. A novelty-sized trumpetesque scoobtron has been rolled in honour of Nick's 22nd birthday. It shall take long moments to smoke, perfect for standing, busted, on Murray Street at 5am tomorrow morning.

Cheers, muchly, to catching up with friends, consolidating relationships with friends old and new, and friends generally.

Life, oh life, oh life.
